Dresses, cupcakes and wands.
All you girls out there, cast your mind back to when your dolls could talk, your teddies made you tea in the garden and paper made the most delicious cupcakes in the world. The time when you could be the fairy AND Cinderella, when you could be Princess Jasmine AND Pocahontas and where your dream man was across between Prince Eric and Shang. Now, for some of us, those days may not have gone. (My husband is across between Prince Eric, Shang and John Smith. Score.)
I sometimes still have princessy days, but more often than not, it's a little more mediocre than that- or even worse! ...The other day, for example, I was feeling rough. I'd been poorly and needed to go into town for some remedial goods. I was wearing jogging bottoms with elasticated bottoms that came about two inches above my ankles. I then pulled on my grey suede ankle boots, hoping my joggers were long enough to tuck inside. They weren't. Turns out I was too out of it to care much because I threw on My Dad's old Russell Athletic Sweatshirt, which is ginormous on me. I then went into town. I turned more heads then than I did when I walked down the aisle on my wedding day. I look HAGGARD!
We all have days when we feel grotty. We all have different ways to rise above the Grotty Goblin within. Perhaps you watch "You've got mail" and eat Ice-cream (a remedy I suggested to one of my History Professors. He appreciated the thought), or perhaps you do some Tai Bo, or crawl back into bed or....whatever! I like to make stuff. I'm not especially good with the old craftiness, You'll never see my stuff on pinterest, but I enjoy it and it relaxes me. Creating things makes me feel good. I remember being on holiday with my family in Dorset, England. We were sitting on a stony beach and I found these gorgeous, white TINY little stones. All of a sudden, I envisaged them on a black plate spelling "Happy Ever After". I announce to my Mum that "I'm going to make a craft" (which, of course, is like saying "I'm going to make a make...") and I made it. I still have it and will, eventually, put it up on the wall. In the words of Archie the Inventor from the kids show "Balamory", "Inventing things is fun" and I reeeeallly enjoy seeing the end product. This counts for food too.
I have taken to snacking on seeds. I do feel like a bird but I rather enjoy them- especially sunflower seeds. When I first tried them, though, My mind was a bit over active and ever time I munched on my seeds, I would have this image of frying them in a little basil oil and garlic salt for a savoury snack or salad topper.... I know. Who dreams about that?? But I did. So I tried it!
Delicious!.
So...when life get's you down, because it does- and we can't be princesses and wear pretty dresses all the time (hence the jogging bottoms look...) create something bizarre, tasty, different, crazy. You never know what your crazy thoughts will turn into! =)
